Drink & Draw is back in Groningen! After years of absence, WEP organizes these drawing sessions (with drinks) again. Are you a drawing professional or a first timer? Everyone is welcome. Bring your pens, pencils, markers, crayons, brushes and join us! Every edition we invite a guest artist who can inspire us with a small display of their work.
For this Drink & Draw, we invited Bart Nijstad. There is a ‘stream of images’ flowing through his mind, consisting of memories, comic books, movies, paintings and other art forms. Using an automatic drawing process, he tries to organise and make sense of that stream of images. Sketches form the basis of his paintings and murals. During a drawing session, he finds fragments of his memories appearing on the paper somewhat unintentionally. The communal factor between these memories and subjects is a sense of awkwardness or discomfort. He is drawn to imagery that doesn’t make sense or seems like it shouldn’t even exist. This results in imagery that’s often humorous, absurd and maybe a bit grotesque.
